Why Your Site NEEDS to be Mobile Friendly

Does your company’s website render correctly when it’s viewed on a mobile phone? It’s astounding how many websites we come across that are not mobile friendly. With more searches now being carried out on mobile rather than on traditional desktops nowadays it’s important that your site is designed to be mobile friendly.

In this blog we are going to explain some key reasons about why your website needs to be mobile friendly. But, before we start with that, let’s explain what we mean by a mobile friendly website.

What is a mobile friendly website?

mobile friendly site

A mobile friendly website is one that can be displayed easily on a mobile phone. If you are reading this on your mobile phone then you will already know that this site is designed to be mobile friendly, but if you are on your desktop be sure to check out the page on your phone to see the difference!

So what makes a mobile friendly website? The website will be able to adapt to the size of the screen that it is being viewed upon. This means that instead of just showing a desktop site, which might result in a squeezed version of your site, it instead displays a version that is easier to navigate. This is done by making the text larger on mobile sites, and doing things like turning menus to hideaway pop-outs. All these steps are designed to make it easier for users to view your page.

Why does it matter if my website is mobile friendly?

There is a huge demand from both users and search engines for sites to be mobile friendly. The trend for searching via a mobile device is only going to continue to grow so your attitude towards having a mobile responsive site is ‘must have’ rather than viewing it as a luxury.

There’s a lot of evidence that shows that users want a mobile friendly site and will not be happy if they don’t receive one! 91% of mobile users reported that access to content is important to them. That means that if you aren’t providing the content they are searching for on a mobile device then you are not going to convert that user into a customer. Indeed, the number of users that will disappear just because of a non-responsive site is incredible. It’s been reported that 61% of users will simply visit another website rather than carry on with a non-mobile responsive experience.

Quite simply, if you aren’t providing a mobile responsive experience, you are shooting yourself in the foot and losing customers.

Search Engines views on mobile-friendly sites.

It’s not just users that aren’t keen on non-mobile friendly sites, search engines aren’t that keen on them either. Obviously Search Engines appreciate the wants of their users and want to provide the best experience for them. As we’ve seen users want the mobile friendly sites, so search engines are more and more giving these higher rankings. Indeed, Google have announced that they are punishing sites with no mobile site by demoting them down the results rankings. It could therefore be the case that you are losing ot on even more traffic by not being mobile friendly! It’s vital for your SEO to have a mobile friendly website.
